A ‘Changing Places’ toilet for people with high care needs was named ‘Australia’s Best Bathroom Facility’ at the 2016 Total Facilities conference. Maroondah City Council took out the accolade for its Changing Places facility at Ringwood Lake Park.

“My son has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. At over 50 kg, without access to a hoist and adult changing table, spending time further away from home is difficult,” explained Changing Place user Barbara Rinderer.

“Going out means taking a risk that we may need to cut short any activity to go home if he needs changing. The Changing Place at Ringwood Lake allows us to enjoy the fabulous playground, liberty swing and walking tracks. Changing Places are giving my son and I some new freedom to enjoy our community that many other families take for granted,” concluded Mrs. Rinderer.
